Is Human Food Safe for Pets?
While it’s tempting to share your meal with your furry friend, many human foods can be harmful — or even deadly — to pets. Their digestive systems work differently from ours, and certain ingredients can cause poisoning, organ damage, or long-term health problems.
🚫 Foods That Are Unsafe for Pets:
- Chocolate: Contains theobromine, toxic to dogs and cats, affecting the heart and nervous system.
- Grapes & Raisins: Can cause sudden kidney failure in dogs.
- Onions & Garlic: Damage red blood cells, leading to anaemia.
- Xylitol (in sugar-free products): Causes a dangerous drop in blood sugar.
✅ Safer Options (in moderation):
- Plain Cooked Chicken: A good lean protein source, unseasoned and boneless.
- Boiled Rice: Gentle on the stomach, especially for pets recovering from mild digestive upset.
- Carrots & Apples (no seeds): Healthy, crunchy treats.
